Author of “Changeling: Prelude to the Chosen” and “Angel of Death: Book One of the Chosen”, Karen Dales is currently at work on the third instalment of “The Chosen Chronicles” - Living in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with her husband, son and two cats, she has been published by local magazines and interviewed by “The Toronto Star” and “The National Post” as a leader in her spiritual community. Q: What inspired you to write “The Chosen Chronicles?” A: When I was in my early 20’s I was involved in an email based Role Playing Game where each player had to create and write part of a story guided by the Games Master. It was here that I developed the character of the Angel and Notus. I also had a hand in Fernando and by extension, Bridget. Jeanie came later, long after the game was over and I was outlining Angle of Death. |
| Q: How long did it take to write both novels? A: <chuckles> I originally wrote it as one novel, but marketing a 300+ thousand word book to publishing houses was difficult, so I broke it into two. The whole process, barring extended breaks to take care of other commitments, was about 14 years. Q: Do you expect “Shadow of Death” to take that long? A; I doubt it. It’s already being written, so I hope to have it ready for publication in three years. Q: As a mother, wife and full time medical office administrator, where do you find the time to write? A: Sometimes I don’t, and I end up having other obligations to fill,. I have a wonderful office in my home, lined with full bookshelves, where I retreat to do at least an hour of work most evenings after my son goes to sleep. Q: Do you get a lot of support from your family? A: Most definitely! If it weren’t for my husband these books would never have been published. Even my in- Q: You’ve been writing for a long time - A: Since I could hold pencil to paper. Q: What pulls you to write? A: I’ve always been writing - Q: You took the 3 year Creative Writing course at York University? A: Yes I did. I never finished my Hon. BA due to taking time out to discover who I was and what I wanted. Q: You ended up becoming a holistic healer before turning to office admin.
A: That’s right. They were always jobs to pay the bills. Writing has always been my career, my love, my creative expression. |
